150 people can only get in+ an ad in the reader and an update on load records = a lot of disappointed people. I was not one of them. I saw the return of lighting bolt to Chicago with a mind boggling amount of younger kids mostly 18-20. normally i wouldn't take this into account except i find the difference between that one year to 21 sometimes makes all the world. Don't get me wrong it was a great show but something was a miss, maybe it was because it was in the basement of a university or maybe it was the drunk 19 year old named Chris who by the time of the show was drunk always trying to crowd surf or for that matter the other 149+ men trying to swallow lighting bolt like the abyss and as a result both of the Brians having to push off college kids almost falling or completely falling on the pedals or the drum kit. there was now way for him to jump off anything or even move the kit. he tried and got only got about one foot. several times he asked them to back up to no avail, just a sea of sweaty kids that smelled like sweat, coffee, cheap booze and cigarettes. Or it might have been one of the opening bands k.k rampage that were awful and cocky trying ever so hard to offend people that they took to spitting on a girl and acting like he would hit someone with a mic stand (also note a swastika on the arm of the shirt he was wearing of his own band and also note at their merch table he was extremely worried that the other shirt that they were selling would have this. in short he was only acting.) but instead showing what happens when you idolize a lack of maturity and musicianship. Or that LB mostly played thier newer stuff and did so in this sort of nervousness that showed as soon as they sat down that this at any moment could be a god awful indie disaster. or maybe its that the bassist doesn't like large crowds and that crowd would make me extremely weary if i were him and i don't mind crowds. They played extremely well their songs are much better live and despite these factors put on an amazing show.
also i am going to new york in less than 24 hrs no work for a week . fuck yeah

negitive temp, analog trouble, and whatever else
So Its been so cold in chicago i think there is a class action lawsuit against lake michigan for its "effect" on the city its pretty drastic, i know. Aside from the usual it has become more apparent i need a computer at home its pretty sad being in the equivilant of 1985 with none of the perks of that time period. also if you are into stocks cheap beer is up 2% bars are down 5%. as for the hunt for the ever more unicorn like cheap analog synth i have returned no results i have attempted many times to search for said elusive beast and yet always miss it, its laughing at me constantly that and i might have to claim jihad on ebay for fucking up the gear market worse then gary busey mug shot. also kelly and my farfisa are at every increasing odds with each other and i am starting to get worried for the farf at any moment i know it my have a run it with a bat or some strange incident down a flight of stairs which is to say like all hicks south of the mason dixon "it had it coming..". My mom and my step dad came into town over the weekend, which was nice sometimes and nerve racking for the other half. at one point my mom wanted to see the famed buddy guy's legends club whci was more sad than under wellming, i have never seen so many crackers in one room outside of a sports bar or a tuppeware party. that and the blues in chicago has taken a turn for the reaper which is heart breaking to say the least. but its was what the crowd thought was blues just like in the 60's when john hurt was passed of for the blues. sometimes it's best to give up my notions of what is this or that and just take in the situation enjoy the fact that i wouldnt normally get caught in such an awkward moment with my mom there or being completely sober . Or that the people playing the music on stage need to play it so they get paid, it wasnt art this was pure entertainment. nothing wrong with it lots of music is just that now not everything needs to be some grandiose refelction of inner turmoil or meditations of losses and gains. and things change it used to be that Rock and roll was just supposed to be about as real as paid for advertisment for 24hr weight loss drinks. now its a whole nervous system interwing with so many statements and values in just that one genre its amazing just like buddy guys god forsaken red and white polkadot suit(how the fuck did he wear that). i think i might have succeded in really wasting your time. lastly i need to really emphasize that the hype that i have created in the band i am in is really my fault and should be kicked in the shins by gilbert godfried while he goes on and on about him "accidently" having intercorse with a cow that he mistaked for woman and later became suspicioous that the cow was a man dressed as a woman..(yeah something obcene and absurd*).. Which reminds me that i got to see some dali bronze scupltures that inspired many thoughts. one was; jokes on you to be willing pay 300,000 bucks for an authorized reproduction of me making fun of the art world while i was really doped up. and right then and there he goes and pants a picture of a donkey wearing assless chaps and drinking beer**.

Jesus did not have to deal with Florecent lights and...
A shitty postal service also a whole generation of people being told that they are better than the next guy and being demanding is polite. Oh and common sense is like the howdy doodie Show. Also inflation is rising more than our birth rate which is only messing with our real estate and that inturn is making it harder for me to live above the ever climbing poverty line which is taller than me. And evidently making a living in the music industry is like being homeless and trying to test drive a ferrari. Oh and when did i think i was so special like i was exempt from it, that was just dumb. And i feel like i was lied to at my college they said i would have career placement for life, they have never helped me find a job. why did i feel like i could follow my dreams...its hard for me not to lose hope and suspect that i am doomed to the tech equivalent of a burger flipper. Whatever i am just down on my self. dont deserve sympathy i think i am not even going to keep this up for more than a week. fuck it.

Hey Wayne Kramer, stop sucking!
I have heard about this MC5 Documentry for a while now. I am in excitement and much anticipation for its well overdue release. This is one of my favorite bands hands down but for some un rock reason it wont be released infact on of the members is keeping is stopping it.

Okay now you're just drawing short straws
As somewhat of an extenstion of the previous posts i had some thoughts i wanted to write out in response to a somewhat disturbing conversation i had with one of my friends in regard to a band he plays in***. the leader had the idea to have a woman front the band but did not want them to be overwieght or non attractive i think is what he was getting at. so my freind who understands the need for "the look" with the leader, wanted some advice to try to put it softly that the leader only want slender women, no ham hocks*. I have to say this led to a feeling of somewhat sadness because i always saw music as having the ability to see past the surface for some truly good music not some teenage masturbation fantasy. Plus most guys in music are about as attractive as what your dog pukes up after eating to much grass. One word lemmy. And then i thought of the dozens of female artist who are not my cup of tea in the physical department but have either influenced some feeling in music so to them i owe some sort of defense. i will go on but first i would like to make a list;
Areatha franklin
ella fitzgerald
billie holiday
mahalia jackson
Mama cass
Tina turner
janis joplin
Kim deal
Kelly deal
Carrie Brownstein
Exene from x
Most of Le tigre
d'arcy from the smashing pumpkins
Rennie sparks
Patsy Cline
Zia Macabe (in present state)
Maureen Tucker
Patti smith
Coco Taylor
Jenny Conlee
Nico post 1979 she did it to herself but still it need to be said
I could produce More names but i would have to dig deep or i dont find them attractive in looks and i dont like there music either so thats just not fair. But i like all these women's contributions and that makes them hot, not conventionally attractive it makes them truly beautiful. i do this only to point out if they were going for model of the year they would be laughed at but instead the gave something far more important there talent. This is just to point out these people all made huge success even though they didnt have the mass appeal look. it should also be pointed out i do not support in any fashion posting wanted ads for band that have anything to do with appearance, all great bands started on want ads just put music influences not an aesthetic . Also is it really fair to hold a double standard i mean what if this started happing to us for all the flegling bands we want to be in**. I think i made my point.
Also if anyone ever tried to say someone like Jessica simpson gave a whole lot to music needs to have there testicals removed and sent to siberia in just a towel.
I would also like to note The front runner of hot girl fronting a band would be Nico For VU
and that did not last for more than one album and while its a classic album (not my favorite from them) It was due to the idea of andy Warhol and it caused alot of problems, Thanks Andy
*i wanted to sound as graphic as possible to point out how mean you sound when you are not bieng either ridiculous on porpose to sound offensive and invoke how dumb people can be or ironic versus how fucked up it is to mean it.
**i do understand if you dont have the look in the pop world for both men and women you wont get anywhere this is the fault of TV and A&R punks.
***My friend is really indifferent, does not care either way b/c he fronts his own band which rocks and he is great guy even though he likes morrisey the same way boy george likes boys and coke.

2 very unorganized editorals on the music industry
These are two posts that refer to some coments i read. The first is a response to assumption that record labels will not exsist after some time due to the advent of digital distribution specifically the recent myspace deal to let artist sell there music. The second refers to the RIAA's recent string of lawsuits and the preception that labels have much to do about this and the issues involved with both sides.
The realization that record companies wont die
The realization that record companies wont die
In a series of awkward ideas, i thought if it were even possible to eliminate the need for a record label and the relationship it has formed with artist and consumers. A couple of things come to mind in this:
1 The whole point of a label on any scale is to distribute, fiance and sell an artist work.
2 the offer something no one on itunes or myspace can, focus based marketing. The scale is irrelevant. An artist does not have the time or the resource to create synergy and a niche for itself. Although sometimes, once in a great while a group does this on its own but it is not standard fare. Also it should be noted in cases like discord DIY legend status and profitablity doesn't take hold until many years later.
3 A label can afford to do what you can't; avoid and out spend market saturation.
Basically any act you name has been able to avoid this in some way or any other b/c someone else is handling every other detail besides touring and the overall music aesthetic.
4 On the major record label's end they are on a whole owned by a larger group, be it viacom or a group of board members it will find a way to adapt.
5 Same with Indies due to the vision of the group or individual. They will find a way to appeal to is current sub-culture or a way to utilize new technology.
*also it should be noted a number of Indies are now what they call boutique labels I.e. They are funded by major labels or owned by them.
6 Distributors will only deal with an entity that can either fiance a record or has a history of being able to move units. Try to get in with southern or Caroline without being incorporated
or having major pull.
7 Sub culture appeal is apart of a label as much as it is apart of a band that is why in general they sign artist in the same movement, making it easier for the consumer to find similar music or aesthetics.
I am sure there is more but i cannot extrapolate on how entertainment economics interact with changes in the market further without more thought.

Yeah its always some onelse who drank the rum
This is what is sad aside from the obvious contentions with consumers. The amount of money spent in litigation is going to be a big deficit for an already worried RIAA. The actual labels themselves have yet to sue a defendent for one red cent which is slightly funny I would have to say. Also i think a clarification for what the RIAA is is in need:
"The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) is the trade group that represents the U.S. recording industry. Its mission is to foster a business and legal climate that supports and promotes our members' creative and financial vitality. Its members are the record companies that comprise the most vibrant national music industry in the world. RIAA members create, manufacture and/or distribute approximately 90% of all legitimate sound recordings produced and sold in the United States.
In support of this mission, the RIAA works to protect intellectual property rights worldwide and the First Amendment rights of artists; conduct consumer industry and technical research; and monitor and review - - state and federal laws, regulations and policies. The RIAA also certifies Gold®, Platinum®, Multi-Platinum™, and Diamond® sales awards, and recently launched Los Premios De Oro y Platino™, a new award celebrating Latin music sales."
Essentially there a inverted better buissness bureau For the Afilliated labels. You have to pay to be reconized by them.
So this offers up some weird sentiment on every side of this un-ending somewhat childish argument that often validates both sides in some way or another. Because of an entitled generation fueled on radio and buisnees the in all honesty when tape decks that dub came on the consumer market and there recent counter parts the cdrw and dvdrw was just as scared of losses, the scale is infact changed though. Making a loss of 1mill pale to a loss of 1bill, if you lost that much in potential profits you would cry bloody murder. But alas it isnt that simple, its not as if some shady stranger is standing in the dark trying is sell you the third incartion of the spice girls on a bootleg with weak Hand writen liner notes either. So they have to scramble to make there place seem ligitimate or they have become obsolete ( the RIAA, not the labels) and it offers up for often ridiculous news. But that doesnt really sum up what is going on quite enough, what i see to be happening is an archaic instituion and a generation raised on free or cheap entertianment trying to say both are right but not really making a legitimate argument. Both are acting as if the other has some huge responsibility for ther failings. As far as the RIAA is concerned they just want to please their bosses. After all you have to try and seem effective, not really be effective.
The need alot of work, but i think i might start writing on this often mis-understood and over generalized industry.

2-6 Biz days!
Sometimes jobs are degrating like taking you skivvies off infront of overweight strangers with halitosis and ketchup stains on there JC penny button down shirts. claiming some Valued position at a firm while you shake it to great white on a stage with a brass pole that doesnt shine like new. some times you take a job like mine that is purgatory it grates on you and belittles what you love because after all you are not the The guy with the stained shirt and a 20 dollar bill.....Well we will see what this becomes.
